Padre Pio was a very prayerful man. In fact, he prayed most days and nights, almost continuously. Padre Pio prayed simple prayers and one of his favorites was the rosary. He wanted all people he knew, if they only were going to pray one prayer, to make it the rosary. Padre Pio had a special mission to the souls in Purgatory and encouraged everyone to pray for them. He used to say, “We must empty Purgatory with our prayers.”
