This is a detailed bronze recast of a vintage Our Lady of Lourdes medal.  The front depicts the Blessed Virgin appearing to St. Bernadette. The reverse has the Blessed Virgin surrounded by lilies, a symbol of her purity. The Blessed Virgin Mother appeared to a peasant girl, Bernadette Soubirous, in the woods near a small grotto in Lourdes, France in the French Pyrenees Mountains. Mary spoke to Bernadette and told her she was The Immaculate Conception. Lourdes is an important place of Catholic pilgrimage. There are four magnificent basilicas built surrounding the grotto, which marks the exact spot where Our Lady appeared to Bernadette. Every evening, there are torchlight processions which begin at the grotto and lead to Rosary Square where the sick are blessed in the name of the Holy Mother. There are four gifts given at Lourdes: the gift of miraculous water, the gift of healing, the gift of reconciliation, the gift of strength and friendship.
